Traffic Safety Unit

The Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit, (TSU), works with citizens and other branches of government to identify problematic areas that create traffic hazards. While investigating these areas, the TSU may resort to decreasing the hazards by public education, recommend engineering changes to the area, or strict enforcement. The TSU is supervised by Sgt. B. A. Dupras.

Commercial Carrier Inspections

The TSU is not just responsible for enforcing traffic laws; the unit’s responsibilities include investigating vehicle related collisions including traffic homicide investigations along with Driving While Intoxicated (D.W.I.) checkpoints and dedicated roving patrols aimed at deterring impaired drivers. The TSU will participate in a number of programs intended to prevent motor vehicle collisions and make our highways safer including the “Click it or Ticket” Program, and the “Aggressive Driving Program”. The TSU will also participate in NYSDOT Commercial Carrier Inspections. The TSU and the Saratoga County Cooperative Extension work together to provide the Alive at 25 Program and the NYS Child Passenger Safety Program.

Reporting Traffic Problems

The Sheriff’s Office recognizes that one of the top concerns from citizens is traffic on neighborhood streets. To better respond to traffic problems in your neighborhood, we have a Traffic Complaint Form that will alert us to your concerns.
