TS15img_2142The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit, CRU, is designed to investigate motor vehicle collisions involving serious personal injury or fatalities.

All members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit attend several weeks of intense training and continue their training as new information and techniques become available. Members are initially trained in Scene assessment, Collision analysis, Vehicle dynamics, scene measurements, total station electronic measuring, scene photography and Visual Statement diagramming software.

Members are trained in the operation of the Leica Viva TS15 Robotic Total Station and Leica Viva CS15 Data Collector. Said devices enable investigators to map collision and crime scenes with pinpoint accuracy.

Members have been called upon to testify in high profile court cases in which their investigation has led to criminal convictions. CRU is supervised by Cpt. M. K. Bortell.
